A simple Shamrock Shake recipe is perfect for a quick and easy St. Patrick’s Day sweet treat!

A creamy, minty Shamrock Shake is a beautiful way to round out your St. Patrick’s Day meal.
If you’re excited about the annual return of McDonald’s Shamrock Shake but don’t feel like trekking out to get one, this recipe is for you. Or, let’s be real…should we reserve this delicious minty, creamy milkshake for just a few short weeks a year? I could live in a world where on-demand Shamrock Shakes exist, and this Shamrock Shake recipe makes that a reality.

How to make this Shamrock Shake recipe
Best of all, you only need a few ingredients to make this simple treat at home.
What you need
- Vanilla ice cream: Get a good quality ice cream. I loved Straus vanilla bean ice cream but recommend looking for an ice cream that uses real milk, cream, sugar, and vanilla. You’ll get the creamiest, richest ice cream ever! I love Straus because they use egg yolks, which creates an even richer milkshake. Häagen-Dazs is another great option!
- Whole milk: You can use lower-fat milk, if you prefer. Personally, if I’m drinking a milkshake, I want a milkshake with a capital M.
- Peppermint and vanilla extract: You only need a touch to achieve that fresh, minty flavor. I add a little extra vanilla for just an extra oomph.
- Green food coloring: Avoid going overboard; your milkshake may cross the threshold into neon! But if you like that, go for it. I tend to go overboard with food coloring, so I always have to control myself and accept that just a few drops will be plenty!
- For serving: Finish each milkshake with whipped cream and a stem-on maraschino cherry for that iconic look.

How to make it
- Step 1: Combine everything in a blender and pulse until smooth and creamy.

- Step 2: Pour the milkshake into glasses and serve with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry.

Grab yourself a cute festive straw, and you’re ready to enjoy the iconic sweet treat of the season!
