Biscuits always intimidated me, but once I learned a super simple recipe to accompany my biscuit cobber recipe, I’ve been making them nonstop. This recipe is such a simple one to learn, but it yields tasty, buttery biscuits that work well for a simple egg sandwich, as a quick little snack, or as a base for a strawberry biscuit shortcake.

How to make this simple biscuit recipe
You don’t need many ingredients for these easy biscuits.
What you need
- Dry ingredients: You’ll use flour, baking powder, salt, and granulated sugar.
- Evaporated milk: This recipe uses evaporated milk, which helps create a moist biscuit with a deeper flavor.
- Butter: The key to good biscuits is very cold butter that you cut into the dry ingredients.

How to make it
- Step 1: Combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a bowl.
- Step 2: Cut cold butter into small cubes and add it to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the flour until a coarse meal forms.
- Step 3: Add evaporated milk and use a fork to mix it into the flour to form a loose dough.
- Step 4: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and form it into a disc with your hands. Use a floured rolling pin to roll the dough once or twice until it’s about 1 inch thick.
- Step 5: Use a 2¾-inch cookie cutter to cut the dough into rounds. Roll the excess into another 1-inch thick disc and continue cutting out biscuits until no more dough remains. This recipe yields 8 biscuits.
- Step 6: Transfer the biscuits to a lightly greased baking sheet and bake at 450ºF for 10 minutes until golden brown on the bottom.
- Step 7: Serve the biscuits with butter and jam and enjoy!
